Txt appeal: It’s all in the SMS
London: Here’s a little tip for men: It’s not your chat up lines that will make the ladies flock to your side, but your texting prowess. According to a new poll, men whose texts are both witty and wise are the one most likely to get the thumbs up from those lovely ladies. And if you think that this is all hogwash, well then you better think again for as it turns out, more than three in four women are likely to judge a man character simply by the way he sends his text messages.
This in turn, is due to the fact that almost nine in 10 girls prefer to swap texts than talk on the phone after exchanging numbers with men they’re interested in, reports the Daily Star.
Researchers have identified four different styles of texting, from the slightly raunchy “Russell Brand”, and the gushing “Words-Worth”, to the short and sweet “Bond”, and the childish “Symbol Simon”. Three out of four women said the style their suitor adopted when communicating by text would play an important role in determining how they saw him.
Just over a third men, 34%, said they opted for the “Russell Brand”, sending witty, medium-length texts with a flirtatious use of innuendo.
Two thirds of women, 68%, said they would respond best to this style, provided it did not stray from flirty to dirty, which would turn 23% of them off.
A quarter of men opted instead for the ‘Bond’ — short, sweet and to the point, with no emotional giveaways. More than half of women, 56%, said they were neither shaken or stirred by this style, judging the man behind them to be unimaginative or lacking in personality.
Almost one in five men, 19%, went for the “Symbol Simon”, although 63% of women dismissed the use of abbreviated text language such as CU L8R as “childish” and “silly”. One third of them opted instead for the romantic “Words-Worth”, the overtly-romantic, lyrical style used by around 20% of men. On the other hand, 58% of women would see the man behind these texts as “desperate” or “needy”.
If the manmade spelling or grammatical errors in his text message, regardless of style, he would be chalked up as either lazy or less intelligent by 41% of women. Females, on the other hand, labour over their missives. More than three quarters, 76%, said they spent 15 minutes or more on a text and 38% said they would run it past their female friends before sending it.
The women taking part in the survey also confirmed what many men have long suspected: 63% deliberately delayed their response to a text for up to two hours in a bid not to appear needy.

William Ostrom of enquiry service 118118, which carried out the poll, said: “Paying attention to texting is important for single men as women place so much importance on it. “Texting has reached an incredible 15 million a day in the UK because it is less pressurised than a phone call, and allows people to have more control over what they say.” AGENCIES

@ashu...yep i knw...i posted the source in the post :)
mav...true and false. I don't like labels and try not to fall onto that trap. Labels are for boxes, can, etc on grocery store selves...like a can of green bbeans.
Spelling doesn't matter and abbriviated words don't mean anything either. What the person expresses does. What that person says...means everything to me as to what kind of person he or she is. It's like a book...the author he or she must do character building...for the reader to know that person.
Cio babes.

i dont know abt liking or not liking but the style most definitely matters and so does correct grammar and spellin or atleast understandable abbreviations...
this goes for chattin as well...
for eg i once came across someone who wrote 'sunsign' as 'sunshine', now that was just :(
another thing, how ure addressed matters... i wouldn't wanna be called sweetie or honey or the likes if i barely know the guy...
@vandita...well thts pretty much true..the style does matter..
